So I’ve been giving Google’s new browser “Chrome” a good run since it came out and I have to say that I really enjoy it for some things.  Not all things, mind you, but certainly the browser has become part of my daily routine.

I love Firefox for it’s extensions and greasemonkey can’t be beat, especially when using Flickr, but Chrome is nice!  It’s clean, it’s fast, the user interface is great.

Today I finally got around to looking at the comic book that came out to explain why Chrome was built in the first place and why it’s a new generation of browser.  The comic was informative and beautiful.  I thought it put everything in easy enough terms for the average person to grasp.

Google hired Scott McCloud of Understanding Comics fame and he did a fantastic job with the comic and the artwork. I’ve been a fan of Scott’s for quite some time and was happy to see Google utilize such a remarkable artist.  No doubt Scott’s book sales will see, if they haven’t already, an increase in both sales and worth.

Google has been one of those companies, much like Apple, in realizing the power of aesthetics in marketing and advertising.  Both use simple yet elegant design to produce products/applications that work well in both form and function.

As an artist in this crazy new digital realm I often marvel at the innovations used to garner people’s attention.  Perhaps my background and studies put design and aesthetics into the forefront, but I’m positive that even the average consumer can see these things, even if only subconsciously.  More importantly I applaud any company who’s goal is to help us get things done.  I want a computer that just works and I want a browser that doesn’t crash and isn’t a memory hog.  The less time I spend in front of the computer getting work done, the more time I can spend behind a camera getting work done.

Thanks Google, and thanks to you too Apple.  You guys help make my life and my work easier.
