In a few short hours I’ll be taking our youngest to the hospital surgery room to have ear tubes put in.
In the past 3 years or so we’ve been through one surgery after another in our family. I had my tonsils removed, then we had our oldest child’s tonsils removed, and now we send our youngest to have tubes put in her ears.
While I know it’s for the best I still can’t help but wonder if we’re doing things right. We eat mostly organic, lead active lifestyles, enjoy art, culture, and plenty of family time.
There’s a part of me that wonders if living in West Texas is somehow having an undesirable effect on our overall health. Are we, even with our healthy lifestyle, swimming upstream?
We live in oil country. There are spills and leaks that potentially contaminate our water supply (do we still have a water supply?) and I grow fearful that if I don’t get my family out of here soon that other ailments may not be far off.
Maybe I’m just being an overly concerned parent?
It’s all just allergies…right? Naturally.
About three to three and half years ago I gave up sodas. There were several reasons for doing this most notably the negative press that High-Fructose Corn Syrup was receiving as a cause for obesity and early diabetes.
I’m not a health nut mind you. I still enjoy a cheeseburger occasionally but my wife and I have really moved more towards a natural diet. I use the word diet in the way that it was originally meant to be; a representative of what you eat on a regular basis not a trend that you may pick up to look good for an upcoming event.

It should have not come to my surprise when I just received notice from John Gruber of Daring Fireball that linked to an article in the Washington Post reporting that High-Fructose Corn Syrup contains freakin’ Mercury! It still hit me with shock.
My parents drink sodas and I’m sure that most of you reading this drink plenty of them as well (FYI sodas are not the only culprit, I’m talking to you Sunny D). I urge you to consider the full implications that a product like that has on our health.
The worst part of all is that the lobbyists and our government along with big business and big farming know all too well the implications that this has on the future of our country. I guess it’s okay because big pharmacy will take care of any health problems we occur in our shortened lives. Thanks big brother.
I’m just saying…
Totally under the weather today.
Was going to head to the Permian Basin Oil Show, but not really feeling up to it.
Wanted to brush up on my “street photography” skills.
I’m gonna try a nap and see how I feel when I wake up.
The light will be really bad by then, but it’ll cause me to think more about how to overcome it, so it’s still a good idea to go.
We’ll see…
