hangin'
Shoes hanging on telephone wires.
One of the best things about being a father and an active parent is the sponteneity that can arise from a simple walk through our West Texas town to a park.
As a photographer I always take a camera with me. Because my wife is also a photographer it doesn’t seem to be bothersome to her. Besides, she ends up with tons of great pictures to use for her scrapbooks.
At a park near our home we saw these shoes hanging from some telephone wires. Brand new Nike Shox to be exact!
I’m willing to bet that somebody was pretty pissed about those shoes ending up where they are.

smokey bokeh
Photograph of small flower patch in black and white.
I usually don’t photograph flowers or botanical scenes but we were taking the kiddos to the park and one of our neighbors had some flowers in their garden. You gotta love how friendly our older Midland, TX neighborhood is. At least we do.
Tegann (our oldest) was really drawn to theses little flowers and Heather (my wife) had been asking for some black and white prints for our bedroom.
Her request was for something in the realm of calming and soothing as we work on making our bedroom a place of relaxation and serenity.
I really enjoyed how the blur of the grass and flower stems at this focal length with a large aperture sort of melts into the top left of the photograph. Reminded me of smoke. Hence the title of this photograph.
New art photograph for sale online at DiscoveredArtists “into the holding tank” can be purchased for $85 as an 8×10 limited edition print.

into the holding tank
There is no real way of disposing of these “forgotten tanks”. They sit in old depository waste sites slowly decomposing and probably adding toxic chemicals to the ground as this process takes place. Relics of what the future holds and the past cannot predict.
I’m often drawn to images of old things. I’ve passed this oil field graveyard in West Texas many times and will probably continue to visit with camera in hand. I’m not a photojournalist by nature, but something about this scene compels me to capture it for the sake or prosperity.
Often times as a photographer and an artist I feel that statements need to be made. So what am I stating? Anything? Nothing?
Maybe I just find beauty in old things. Maybe I find it ironic that the fruits of so many labors may end up being the downfall of human society.
These are the fruits of my labor. It burdens me.
