Photograph of small flower patch in black and white.

I usually don’t photograph flowers or botanical scenes but we were taking the kiddos to the park and one of our neighbors had some flowers in their garden.  You gotta love how friendly our older Midland, TX neighborhood is.  At least we do.

Tegann (our oldest) was really drawn to theses little flowers  and Heather (my wife) had been asking for some black and white prints for our bedroom.

Her request was for something in the realm of calming and soothing as we work on making our bedroom a place of relaxation and serenity.

I really enjoyed how the blur of the grass and flower stems at this focal length with a large aperture sort of melts into the top left of the photograph.   Reminded me of smoke.  Hence the title of this photograph.

  • Great image, but I can't make out any bokeh; just decent DoF.
  • Technically "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light." or what is not in focus is bokeh.

Actually I wrote a little about the potential miss use and misunderstanding of the term bokeh at http://www.yourphototips.com/2008/07/09/bokeh/
